Estancia Chochoy Mallin – North Patagonia

This working cattle ranch is the home of our newest program. The main house offers guests 3 spacious bedrooms, two of which have en suite bathrooms. For the 2019/2020 seasons we can accommodate a maximum of 4 anglers per day.
Within the boundaries of the estancia are three amazingly beautiful rivers. Included is our exclusive private access to Nireco Creek. This gem of the ranch is only 10 minutes away and is a fantastic brown and rainbow trout fishery.

How to get there

This area is relatively remote and a good distance from any commercial airport. Neuquén (NQN) and San Martin de los Andes (CPC) are the closest airports and both offer direct daily flights from Buenos Aires.

The estancia is located approximately five hours from either airport. Whichever airport you utilize your guide will be waiting for you upon your arrival. Snacks, beverages and lunch (depending on the time of day) will be available during the airport to lodge transfer.

Fishing

The area surrounding Estancia Chochoy Mallin offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities. Three main rivers are nearby to Chochoy Mallin: Trocoman, Nahueve and Neuquen. All of these rivers have several 6 to 8 mile sections that are ideal for day float trips from the ranch. The Trocoman River, with over 35 miles of continuously floatable water, makes it possibility for multiple day floats. This would be ideal for an extended Andes Drifters Deluxe River Camp. We have described the primary environment however this area has so many fishing options that you could fish for a month and never duplicate a location.

Other Activities

The natural environment that surrounds the estancia makes it the perfect location for guests seeking tranquility as they explore this unique part of the world. A day of horseback riding or hiking is an excellent way to experience the Andes Mountains. In addition, we can arrange for local technician to help you search for fossils while viewing the interesting geology.

A main feature in this region is the “transhumancia” or seasonal movement of livestock. There are numerous herders that migrate primarily with their goats but also cows, sheep and horses. They herd the highlands during the summer months and in the lower elevations during the winter. You will have the opportunity to view this century old tradition and learn about the lives of these native people.
On our floats we normally combine fishing hopper/dropper rigs with dry fly sight fishing. When water levels are high streamer fishing can produce amazing opportunities for large fish. Also, in mid summer you will have the chance to experience sight casting during the inchworm hatch.

The area around the Estancia is a paradise for those who love to walk and wade. A large variety of small creeks and medium to large sized streams flow in all the nearby valleys.
